The recipe tool turning discounts into dishes
I9 – The Yellow Sticker Cookbook by Uncommon Creative Studio
Since the UK economy reopened in 2021, the cost of living crisis has been biting hard. A recent survey found that more than half of adults (51%) in Great Britain said they were buying less food when shopping for groceries. Our cash isn’t stretching as far as it used to.
Except in one place – the reduced food aisle. Sifting through food in this section of the supermarket can save perfectly good food from going to waste, but it can also be unpredictable. So how do you make a meal out of nearly-off-yoghurt, courgetti, and whatever else happens to be on the shelf that day?
Enter The Yellow Sticker Cookbook by Uncommon Creative Studio – a tool that enables shoppers to scan the ingredients found in yellow sticker aisles, and then offers them a range of appropriate recipes from BBC Food’s vast open-source recipe database. The tool integrates an AI-powered search engine that uses a smartphone camera to identify objects (Google Lens).
We love tools like this, offering a simple, fun and practical solution to some of the UK’s most pressing challenges.
