Take a virtual dive into marine conservation
M15 – The Sea We Breath by the Blue Marine Foundation
The Blue Marine Foundation has taken an innovative approach to educating young people about ocean conservation by creating a virtual tour of the sea. The Sea We Breathe, narrated by Helena Bonham Carter and designed by Unseen Studio, highlights the importance of our oceans and the solutions we can implement to mitigate climate change.
The platform submerges users into realistic and interactive 3D underwater environments, and a beautiful music score composed by Unseen Studio’s in-house designer Charlie Davies completes the immersive experience. The homepage also contains a breathing exercise, soothingly voiced by Stephen Fry, to help reduce tension and improve concentration and memory.
Joanna Coumbe, Director of Outreach at the Blue Marine Foundation said, “Traditional education methods are often not enough to trigger behaviour change, and VR creates psychological presence, or a sense of ‘being there’, which encourages adoption of pro-environmental behaviours. VR has also been shown to increase the likelihood of prosocial or ‘helping’ behaviour that could be instrumental in driving long-term change.”
We love how the Blue Marine Foundation has stepped away from standard reporting, and taken a giant leap of imagination to create a beautiful and well built virtual tour that creates an almost spiritual experience as well as an educational one.
