Imagining the future of food
K11 – ‘Preferable Future of Food’ by SALLY, EY Doberman’s future manifestation lab
The world’s food system is facing complicated challenges. Overfishing, soil erosion, water shortages, and extreme weather events threaten its security. It was World Food Day last month, so we’ve been on the lookout for a relevant (and brilliant) example of a data story from this industry.
On our hungry quest, we unearthed ‘Preferable Future of Food’ by SALLY, EY Doberman’s future manifestation lab. It’s an online story that takes a broken food system and reimagines business models and digital services that could lead us into a world where we both love and value our food.
Using cutting-edge food data, this online story identifies opportunities to create intelligent consumer tools. The idea is that these tools will then help guide consumers through conscious actions they could take. Users can explore the nutritional value of everyday food, and discover how to fill their kitchen shelves with more varieties of food that have travelled smaller distances. The project also identifies potential opportunities in other areas such as urban farming. Sounds delicious – we’ll take one.
